Aztlán Roots is one of California’s newest yet most experienced reggae sound systems. Created in 2003 when four DJs realized that if they were already friends, they night as well work together. Between them, Noble, Delgado, Teddy Rucka, and Tony EveryKnight bring a combined 45 years experience in the business enlightening minds, shaking speakers, and making people move to the music.

Their name comes from the Aztec myth of Aztlán—the promised land, a term frequently used to describe the lands taken from México by the United States. The term refers to where we are, what we are working towards, and as a reminder of the social conditions we work within and against. Our symbol represents this as well—it is an Aztec-style depiction of the classic Rastafari symbol of a lion.

Aztlán Roots is one of the few sound systems that truly encompass the reggae genre, with original vinyl records that span from ska to the latest dancehall 45s, while touching on the entire history of hip hop, R&B, and remixes as well.
